  1. Wow, H!P released more than double the singles AKB did this year, and their still more than 100000 lower in overall sales. I’m thinking things are not looking good for H!P in the coming months. They really need to rethink things if they want even a remote chance in taking AKB48 on. Right now, their not even in the running if you ask me.

  2. Really don’t know what everyone sees in akb48. I’ll take ANY Morning Musume line-up any day. In fact, I’ll take ANY HP group over akb. From what I’ve seen, akb is just a trampy version of a Musume wannabe.
    Morning Musume Forever!

    • And from the sounds of it, you haven’t listened to even one of their songs, am I right?

Before you say their trampy or whatever, listen to their songs, or watch their PV’s or whatever; give them a legitimate chance. Then you’ll see why they are doing so much better than anything H!P can put out.

      • Actually, I’ve seen a few of their PV’s including River. I’ve also seen one of their concerts (I think it was a team B one), a number of clips on youtube and have downloaded and listened to most of their songs. I listen to a lot of jpop and jrock, also some cpop and a little kpop. I want to like every group I try. With Akb48, I just don’t see the attraction.

      • Fair enough. I just dislike when people say their “trampy” or something similar. Yes, they have a different style when compared to say H!P, but I think that’s what I like about them. I still don’t think their trampy or slutty or whatever. That might just be me though.

        Comment by Aigon | 2009-12-30

    • I dunno, you can’t entirely judge a group like AKB based on a random concert, random songs, and random PVs (which contain less than half of the actual group). And moreover comparing them with H!P. There are more things in jpop than those two organizations.

But you are free to say what you think about them :P

  3. I will say they have some VERY cute girls (especially the one that looks like Ai Takahashi)but then again Japan is filled with beautiful women, young and old.

  4. Akimoto knows how to market — AKB48 was created mainly for the Otaku generation (Manga/Anime buffs, et al); which explains the schoolgirl motif.

Since Elder Club graduated, there’s not much left for me to stay true to H!P (for me, Berryz, Mano Erina & C-ute are reasons) — and clearly that can also explain the drop in overall sales.

Just the ratio of singles to total sales b/t AKB48 & H!P is a huge indication who is dominating the Idol scene nowadays.

The day will come when Hello! pro eggs begin to flock and join the Research Students.

    • I agree 100% on the Elder Club issue. I’m still pissed at that. I’m dreading the day when the rest of the 5th and 6th gens graduate.

  6. hmmmmm this is just one good year AKB48 is having and you guys are sounding the death tolls for H!P even in it’s “bad year”? … oh ye of little faith….
    (heck what do i know… H!P of 2009 is all i know… i am a new fan  )
and echoing some of the gentleposters prior to me… AKB48 isn’t for me aye?
besides the fact that we won’t be seeing the elderclub in a H!P concert TT_TT, what is separate from that and M-line?

  7. I don’t think that AKBIdoling’s single should count entirely to AKB. Idoling has (some few) fans, too.

AKB also had a unit called Natto Angels, though I don’t know if their release was sold in stores.

    Wow…
    I guess this isn’t H!P’s time anymore…
The public moved on to AKB…
It had to finish sometime, right…
