Yaguchi Mari joined Hello! Project in 1998 as a second generation member of Morning Musume alongside Yasuda Kei and Ichii Sayaka. She quickly gained popularity due to her bubbly personality and comedic personality.

She formed Morning Musume sub-group Minimoni in 2000 with fourth generation Morning Musume members Kago Ai and Tsuji Nozomi as well as Coconuts Musume member Mika. The group went on to achieve considerable popularity.

Yaguchi has been a member of several Hello! Project units though since her resignation from Morning Musume in 2005 she has focused more on television with several Yaguch fronted shows currently on the air as well as a few roles in dramas.
