    Melon Kinenbi to disband

Up-Front Agency announced a few days ago that long running group Melon Kinenbi will disband after ten years together with an unchanged line-up. I’m not sure how I feel about their disbanding, although I overall liked what they released last year I can’t say that they are a group I was ever overly interested in. While it’s sad that the girls will no longer be together, surely at least one of them will pursue a solo career?

This makes the title of their recent album, MELONS NOT DEAD, a little ironic, doesn’t it?

Berryz Koubou new single and MELON’S NOT DEAD

On E-hon’s page after many days of checking, a new single for Berryz has shown up. It’s yet another double A side titled 友達は友達なんだ!/雄叫びボーイ WAO!(Tomodachi wa Tomodachi Nanda! / Otakebi Boy WAO!). The release date for the single is on 2010-03-03 while the single V is out a week later on 2010-03-10.

It was also announced recently that Melon Kinenbi will be releasing a new album next year titled MELON’S NOT DEAD on 2010-02-17. A great title I must say and I wonder if they’ll keep the sound they had during their collaboration singles, which were all quite good in my opinion. Seems next year is going to be loaded with Hello! Project and related releases.

Melon Kinenbi 3rd Colloboration Single: “Sweet Summer Suicide Story”

First of all, how awesome is that title? Secondly, I love the cover. Melon Kinenbi are doing pretty exciting stuff right now and I have really liked the two previous colloboration singles, one which is yet to be released. This one is out 2009-08-12 and is a colloboration with Midori†. You can see Melon Kinenbi and Midori† together below:

By the way, I’ve updated the Release Schedule & History pages with new info!

Oricon for Kago Ai, Melon Kinenbi & AKB48

Kago Ai & Melon Kinenbi both released singles today, Kago’s being her debut solo single and the Melon Kinenbi single being the first of five colloborations, this one with Beat Crusaders.

Kago has charted at No.26 with no hesitAtIon, I was hoping she’d chart a bit higher but I guess I shouldn’t expect too much, especially as there hasn’t been too much promotion for this single.

Rather surprisingly Melon Kinenbi have charted at No.27 with Don’t Say Goodbye and considering this is an indie release sold only at Tower Records the ranking isn’t half bad!

The real victiory in the charts this week is for AKB48 who have managed to reach No.2 in their first day of sales with 41,064 copies of their new single Namida Surprise! sold in one day!! Amazing!

Wow, Melon Kinenbi charted decently…o.o I used to check their PPN page and it says that they used to chart in the 180-200 range o.o Yay collaboration?

Kago’s single could’ve done better with promotion.

Wow, almost forgot that AKB48 had a new single coming out. They are just blazing the Oricon charts, aren’t they?

I agree I was hoping that Kago’s single would have been higher on the chart.

I agree that Aibon’s Single could’ve easily ranked higher, but the promotion barely was there. If not for yas, I never would’ve known [and never just received meh First Release]. XD

Both Songs are AWESOME and suit her, at least in my opinion.

But the whole-thing with being fired from H!P could’ve also hurt her Sales. So, I’m hoping, that with time, she will regain her old fans and/or gain respect and even more fans. <3

2nd Melon Kinenbi Colloboration Single with NEW ROTE’KA

Melon Kinenbi will release their 2nd colloboration single of five with the rather zaney group NEW ROTE’KA on 2009-07-22. The single will be called ピンチはチャンス バカになろうぜ!, Pinch ha Chance Baka ni Narouze! If you search NEW ROTE’KA on Youtube you’ll see they’re a pretty crazy group – this single should prove interesting!

Melon Kinenbi will release the first of their colloboration singles next week with BEAT CRUSADERS – if you’re in Japan get yourself out to Tower Records and pick up a copy!

FIVE New Singles for Melon Kinenbi

    Melon Kinenbi Dark

Somewhat shockingly Melon Kinenbi is set to release five colloboration singles in a rock style, the first will be with the well known group, BEAT CRUSADERS. The singles will be available only at Tower Records and through the fanclub website which means we can’t hope for any big sales figures. Mano Erina’s last indie single Lalala-Sososo was sold only at Tower Records and sold 600 copies – not actually too shameful.

It’s good to hear the girls are getting new material!

The first single with BEAT CRUSADERS will be released on 2009-06-24 and so far is untitled.

Hmm. Just hope the music industry doesn’t try to crowd out MK as they dive into the indie world without the Hello! Project apparatus to support them.

    Today’s Releases (2008-12-10)

I’ve stopped posting daily releases lately as I feel they’re sometimes a bit redundant but today we have a lot of big releases so I think it might be worthwhile giving them a mention!

    • Shugo Chara EggMinna no Tamago (1st Single)
    • Abe NatsumiAbe Natsumi Best Selection 15 Shoku no Nigaoe Tachi (1st Best-Of Album) (CD + DVD)

    • V.A. – Special Units MEGA Best (Compilation Album)
    • V.A.Pucchi Best 9 (Compilation Album)
    • V.A.Pucchi Best 9 DVD (PV Collection DVD)
    • C-uteFOREVER LOVE (7th Single V)
    • MilkyWay / SHIPSKirarin Revolution 3rd Tour Stage 2 (Anime DVD)

The Hello! Project compilation album Pucchi Best 9 as well as all of the Mega Best albums were released today, the highest charting being Abe Natsumi’s at #15 in Oricon; it’s bound to fall substantially though considering the success of her latest single (more on that in the next post).

Pucchi Best 9 has charted at #22 today and like Nacchi’s album will most likely fall out of the Top 30 very soon.

All of the other albums have failed to chart within the Top 30.

On a more optimistic note Shugo-Chara Egg’s debut single Manna no Tamago has charted at #5 in the Oricon Daily Charts – quite impressive for a group of newbies. We’ll see how that does all week I guess, let’s hope for a Top Ten ranking at the end of the week. Although the single isn’t my cup of tea I’d be more than happy for any Hello! Project group to have some success right now!
