First Week Sales for “Aitai Lonely Christmas”

C-ute’s 14th single, Aitai Lonely Christmas, has sold 23,682 copies in it’s first week of sales – an improvement over their last two singles. I think the single is alright, you can see for yourself by watching the PV on the right! It ranked at #6 in the Oricon charts.

Wow, H!P released more than double the singles AKB did this year, and their still more than 100000 lower in overall sales. I’m thinking things are not looking good for H!P in the coming months. They really need to rethink things if they want even a remote chance in taking AKB48 on. Right now, their not even in the running if you ask me.

    • vampirehunterd 11:12 am on 2009-12-30 Permalink | Reply

Really don’t know what everyone sees in akb48. I’ll take ANY Morning Musume line-up any day. In fact, I’ll take ANY HP group over akb. From what I’ve seen, akb is just a trampy version of a Musume wannabe.
      Morning Musume Forever!

      • Aigon 11:40 am on 2009-12-30 Permalink | Reply

And from the sounds of it, you haven’t listened to even one of their songs, am I right?

Before you say their trampy or whatever, listen to their songs, or watch their PV’s or whatever; give them a legitimate chance. Then you’ll see why they are doing so much better than anything H!P can put out.

        • vampirehunterd 1:24 pm on 2009-12-30 Permalink

Actually, I’ve seen a few of their PV’s including River. I’ve also seen one of their concerts (I think it was a team B one), a number of clips on youtube and have downloaded and listened to most of their songs. I listen to a lot of jpop and jrock, also some cpop and a little kpop. I want to like every group I try. With Akb48, I just don’t see the attraction.

        • Aigon 1:35 pm on 2009-12-30 Permalink

Fair enough. I just dislike when people say their “trampy” or something similar. Yes, they have a different style when compared to say H!P, but I think that’s what I like about them. I still don’t think their trampy or slutty or whatever. That might just be me though.

      • Valerie 8:15 am on 2010-01-06 Permalink | Reply

I dunno, you can’t entirely judge a group like AKB based on a random concert, random songs, and random PVs (which contain less than half of the actual group). And moreover comparing them with H!P. There are more things in jpop than those two organizations.

But you are free to say what you think about them :P

I will say they have some VERY cute girls (especially the one that looks like Ai Takahashi)but then again Japan is filled with beautiful women, young and old.

Akimoto knows how to market — AKB48 was created mainly for the Otaku generation (Manga/Anime buffs, et al); which explains the schoolgirl motif.

Since Elder Club graduated, there’s not much left for me to stay true to H!P (for me, Berryz, Mano Erina & C-ute are reasons) — and clearly that can also explain the drop in overall sales.

Just the ratio of singles to total sales b/t AKB48 & H!P is a huge indication who is dominating the Idol scene nowadays.

The day will come when Hello! pro eggs begin to flock and join the Research Students.

I agree 100% on the Elder Club issue. I’m still pissed at that. I’m dreading the day when the rest of the 5th and 6th gens graduate.

hmmmmm this is just one good year AKB48 is having and you guys are sounding the death tolls for H!P even in it’s “bad year”? … oh ye of little faith….
      (heck what do i know… H!P of 2009 is all i know… i am a new fan  )
and echoing some of the gentleposters prior to me… AKB48 isn’t for me aye?
besides the fact that we won’t be seeing the elderclub in a H!P concert TT_TT, what is separate from that and M-line?

    • Valerie 8:20 am on 2010-01-06 Permalink | Reply

I don’t think that AKBIdoling’s single should count entirely to AKB. Idoling has (some few) fans, too.

AKB also had a unit called Natto Angels, though I don’t know if their release was sold in stores.

1st Day Sales for Iiwake Maybe

AKB48 have done it again, the first day sales for their newest single, Iiwake Maybe is 57,456 and it’s ranked at #1 around 20,000 copies above SMAP! That’s some pretty impressive figures!

I don’t really understand the great attraction of the single as it sounds like just about everything else they’ve released lately, it’s a fairly decent single overall and I like the c/w better!

This could potentially be AKB48’s first weekly #1!

2nd Week Sales for Nanchatte Renai

Morning Musume’s 40th single Nanchatte Renai #12 in the Oricon Weekly Charts with sales of 11,271 – the highest second week sales since 女子かしまし物語 (Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari) in 2004!

This brings Nanchatte Renai’s total sales figures to 66,244 and it charted at #10 today so it’s most likely gonna sell a little bit more in it’s 3rd week! Let’s hope for 70,000!! Shows what some promotion can achieve eh?

Wow, Tane was an amazing single. I bet with more promotion it could’ve done really well, the song was greattttttt.

@matthew, AKB48 has really risen in popularity and sales. I’m hoping MM would do the same…Nanchatte Renai is a pretty cool song, but it sounds really similar to Shouganai Yumeoibito. That could either be a plus or a minus.

@rasune7, from my point of view, i am shock. Because, i support both groups. I am happy for both of the Idol groups. Be it MM or AKB48, it does not matter. I still am a fan.

@kenny, in my heart, MM has already made history since they started out. I really wish that MM can be even better.

indeed i think °C-ute is a much selling better group. Anyways, i am still a H!P fan…so i support them all the way.

eh…i believe all the details are taken from the Oricon website, Tsunku’s blog and other websites.

I am sure the creator of this post KNOWS Japanese and English or maybe with help from someone.

Most likely he knows how to translate the Japanese words to English!

AKB are surely amazing whit that numbers. They’re like MM in their golden era. And looking to their (AKB48) statistics, i think their current release isn’t their maximum achievement. There will be more. But, somehow, still i would prefer tsunku’s product (which one is the best from H!P or NGP in my opinion) rather than akimoto’s.
I’ve seen so many H!P fans become AKB48 fans, but I’ve seen the opposite too. And it’s very interesting to hear their (AKB48 to H!P fans) story.

Very impressive numbers for akb48, but they only have 2 songs, seems like most of the list are HP artist. I’m glad Yaguchi Mari solo did so well, hopefully there’s more to come from her soon.

honestly, if you put everything into perspective, the immediate H!P and AKB48 have roughly the same memebers (counting Kenkyuusei and Hello! Pro Eggs), and overall H!Ps sales are higher than AKB48’s. I love both AKB48 and Hello! Project, but I think those are the main things to keep in mind when couting sales or saying ‘who beats who.’ in the end, both groups get about the same xD

I know alot of friends popular on myspace that have sold more then that and arent known in the industry at all!

and how is aya selling so bad?! How are they still letting her make music with this number!

    Lowest Ever Sales for Nacchi

Hello! Project soloist Abe Natsumi’s latest single Screen which was released 2008-12-03 ranked at #29 in the Oricon Weekly Charts last week just scraping a top 30 ranking and selling a shockingly low 4,848 copies. Although Nacchi’s single sales have decreased in the last few years they’ve never been particularly bad and certainly not as low as this. The single peaked at #10 in the daily charts last week and fell from there, it’s highest chart point this week has been #50.

The reason for such low sales? Next to no promotion, only one edition of the single and no TV performances. This is a really awesome single and Up-Front should be ashamed for under promoting it. Abe has certainly lost her earlier popularity but there’s no reason that this single should have sold as low as it did.

Her best-of album which came out on 2008-12-10 debuted at #15 in the album charts and dropped to 31 the following day.

I really liked Screen too, I was hoping it would do well.
